The essential oil of tea tree, or tea tree oil, is obtained from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a plant of the Mirtaceae family, already known by the aboriginal populations of the Bundjalung tribe who used its water-resistant bark for the manufacture of small canoes or tools. The curious name of "tea tree" (Tea Tree) was attributed to him by James Cook, who learned to prepare, imitating local customs, a refreshing infusion with the leaves of this tree, with healing and antiseptic properties.
Hair: Useful against dandruff, to rebalance the secretion of sebum in case of oily hair or in case of scalp dermatitis. To be diluted 5-7 drops of tea tree oil in a bottle of neutral shampoo, such as our Sardinian Wild Helichrysum Shampoo from the Semplice Macchia line.
Skin: tea tree oil has many properties.
Antibacterial: useful for disinfecting small wounds, to be applied to the affected areas with a cotton swab after diluting two or three drops in vegetable oil. For the same properties it can be used for dermatitis, small burns and eczema, always diluted in a vegetable oil or on warts, acne, boils and small cold sores applied pure locally.
Antifungal: this oil has been shown to be active against various fungi and yeasts capable of causing disorders of the skin, mucous membranes and skin appendages (such as nails), such as Malassezia furfur, Candida albicans, Trichophyton rubrum and Microsporum canis . Given its effectiveness in fighting fungi and yeasts such as Candida albicans, tea tree oil can be used for the preparation of intimate wash solutions. It is also possible to add a few drops of essential oil to the intimate soap (for example our Sardinian Wild Myrtle Cleanser from the Semplice Macchia line) to prevent and soothe the symptoms of cystitis.
Anti-inflammatory: effective in the treatment of gingivitis and other infections of the oral cavity, to be used for rinsing and gargling with 2 drops diluted in half a glass of warm water.
Pesticide: natural remedy against lice infestations, both on adult specimens and on eggs. Effective in the treatment of insect bites, as a natural cortisone, it reduces itching and prevents the formation of wheals. Also useful for removing parasites from animals, to be applied, diluted in water, on the hair of dogs or cats, on the bed and in the kennel.
Mucolytic: fumigations with tea tree oil give relief and decongest the upper airways in case of colds, sinusitis and bronchitis.
Home: Tea Tree Essential Oil is also very useful for cleaning the house. It can be diluted in room fragrances, to purify and freshen the air in the rooms or to keep insects away. Diluted in water, it can be sprayed as a disinfectant and anti-mold on bathroom fixtures and various surfaces, from the shower surface to the floors.
Aromatherapy: Tea Tree Essential Oil is purifying, fortifying and energizing, but also has a balancing effect on the entire mind-body system. It has a very intense balsamic fragrance, so it can be diluted with another Essential oil (for example Lavender or Lemon).
