Carboxymethylcellulose
Sodium salt - Cellulose Gum - Thickening Powder (E466)
Cellulose is naturally present in the Cell walls and wood of plants.
CMC is a natural polymer derived from cellulose, naturally present in the walls and wood of plants.
Features
Once dispersed in water, it gives rise to pseudoplastic formulations, of variable viscosity depending on the concentration used. It is a gelling agent, viscosing and stabilizing of emulsions and a film-forming agent in decorative cosmetics.
It also has a film-forming action.
It is used in a pH range between 5 and 10 and tolerates alcohol concentrations up to 60% and the presence of electrolytes.
Uses
Carboxymethylcellulose can be used in water-based gels, O/A emulsions of various viscosities, as a viscosity in detergents and decorative cosmetics.
It is particularly useful for massage gels.
It is used in water-based gels at a concentration between 1 and 3 %, but also in oil emulsions in water at a concentration between 0.2% and 1%.
It gives the recipes a good smoothness, a smooth appearance and a rich touch on the skin.
Gel Preparation:
Pour the amount of water, hydrolate or hydrophilic extract necessary for the formation of the gel into a suitable container. Add the cellulose gradually, then blend and homogenize.
*In order to facilitate the dispersion of the product heat the water to 60-70 ºC.
Conservation
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light, heat and humidity.
